Applications of One Way Glass

With the advancement of technology, glass has also undergone many changes. You can now specialise in this material to suit your requirements. This has significantly increased the robustness and effectiveness of our designs.

An example of this advancement in glazing solutions is one way glass.

What is One Way Glass?

One way glass is also called a two-way mirror glass or a half-silvered mirror glass. One way glass is a kind of glass that is transparent on one side and reflective on the other, unlike standard glass, which is transparent on both sides. A thin, almost transparent metallic coating is applied on the surface one of the glass surfaces. This enables more light to penetrate through the coated surface as compared to the little amount of light that it reflects.

However, to work efficiently, one side of the mirror requires twice the amount of light that the other side is receiving. In this way, the darkened side can see through the brightly-lit side but not vice-versa. This is also a reason because of which the glass is called one way glass. For those on the bright side of the glass, it appears to be like any other mirror glass, but for those on the darker side, one way glass acts like a transparent glass.

1. Privacy matters

Glass can help you balance privacy concerns in a way that doesn't reduce the benefits of daylight, fresh breezes and ventilation. As the glass acts as a mirror on one side, the semi-silvered side can be used on the outside. This way, outsiders can't see inside, while you have a clear view of the world outside. One-way glass windows are perfect for one-way viewing.

2. Sliding glass doors

To get a sense of extension, designers and architects use sliding glass doors that lead to the garden or patio. A way glass sliding door is perfect. You will get the best possible daylight without exposing your living space. As the glass is also very durable, it will last longer.

3. Low-E automotive windows

Glass is often used to make car windows with a low-e coating to protect against harmful solar glare and to block out heat. Cars can become unusually hot in the sun. This can lead to severe discomfort and dependence on air conditioning. To prevent this, one way is to install glass windows in your car.

In addition to protecting against harmful UV rays, glass windows also block the view of outsiders. You can drive comfortably without anyone peering into your car and sing freely to your music. In addition, stopping at red lights will become less of a problem.

4. Glass partitions

In the latest interiors, more effort is being made to instil a sense of openness in the plans. Using one-way glass as a partition or wall in a cabin is a great idea to promote a sense of openness while allowing a wide view beyond the glass partition. In this way you can monitor activity around the office space without making your staff aware.
